New publication supported by the MBI Al Jaber Foundation: Architectural Heritage of Yemen: ‘Buildings That Fill My Eye’
We are pleased to have supported an important new publication on the traditional architecture of Yemen. The book accompanies the exhibition currently showing at the Brunei Gallery, SOAS, is edited by exhibition curator Professor Trevor Marchand and is authored by leading scholars from around the world. The foreword is by our Chairman, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber The twenty chapters explore the astonishing variety of building styles and traditions that have evolved over the millennia.
A sharp escalation in military action and violence in the country since the 1990s has had a devastating impact on the region’s rich cultural heritage. The exhibition and book are aimed at raising awareness of the current situation.
In acknowledgement of the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen £5 from every copy sold will be donated to the UNHCR Yemen Emergency Appeal.
