Series promoting the cultural heritage and diversity of the Middle East to be held at the MBI Al Jaber Building, LMEI, Russell Square.

The MBI Al Jaber Foundation is pleased to announce its first ever lecture series promoting the cultural heritage and diversity of the Middle East. Speakers will include highly regarded academics, journalists, political commentators and archaeologists. The lectures, running throughout the academic year, will demonstrate the region’s development and impact upon the rest of the world.

Abubakr Al-Shamahi, freelance journalist and former media researcher at the MBI Al Jaber Media Institute in Yemen, will launch the series on October 16th with his talk on the proliferation of private media in Yemen post 2011 and the effect that this has had on Yemeni politics and the general public. He will also be discussing the impact of the MBI Al Jaber Media Institute in Yemen.

Professor Michael Petraglia, Co-Director of the Centre for Asian Archaeology, Art & Culture, University of Oxford & Senior Research Fellow of Linacre College Oxford, will present the second lecture of the autumn term. Michael will be discussing the ‘Greening of Arabia: Water, Fossils and Early Peoples’, part of his team’s exciting Palaeodeserts Project research.

Other speakers include: Chris Doyle, Director, Council for Arab British Understanding (CAABU); Professor Trevor Marchand, Professor of Social Anthropology, SOAS, and Nigel Fletcher, Executive Director, Centre for Opposition Studies.
