MBI Al Jaber Scholarship Student Fatma Zohra Naili Achieves Upper Second Class Honours

MBI Al Jaber Scholarship Student Fatma Zohra Naili

MBI Al Jaber scholarship student Fatma Zohra Naili has been awarded an Upper Second Class Diploma in Communicative Japanese by SOAS. Her initiative, ability and hard work came to the attention of Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber, Founder, Chairman and Patron of the MBI Al Jaber Foundation, after the producers of a documentary looking at provision for the disabled in Algiers stumbled across her during a visit to her home in 2014. Carolyn Perry, Director of the MBI Al Jaber Foundation, visited Algeria early in 2015, at the request of Sheikh Mohamed, to meet Fatma and congratulate her on her extraordinary dedication. This meeting resulted in Sheikh Mohamed awarding her a special scholarship so that she could continue her studies in Communicative Japanese at SOAS, University of London.

She arrived during September 2016 and embarked on her work with great enthusiasm… And she has been rewarded with Upper Second Class Honours! She has now returned to Algeria where she plans to open a language school to teach Japanese. Fatma explained that there are many young people in Algiers who are interested in both Japanese language and culture, so she plans to share her knowledge and language skills with them on her return. We wish her the very best of luck in achieving her dream.

Supporting students like Fatma is in keeping with Sheikh Mohamed’s support for education reform in the MENA region. The MBI Al Jaber Foundation has been awarding scholarships for two decades to Arab residents of the Middle East and North Africa who hold unconditional offers from well-respected universities. What unites these students is a desire to make a real difference – not only for themselves but also for their community, country or region.
