Sultan Sooud Al-Qassemi gives inaugural Research Associate lecture at SOAS Middle East Institute
Trustee Sir Tim Lankester and Director Carolyn Perry were at SOAS this week to see Sultan Sooud Al-Qassemi lecture on ‘Socio-Political Art by Arab Women Artists’ in front of a packed audience in the Brunei Lecture theatre, SOAS. The event was chaired by Lina Khatib, holder of the MBI Al Jaber Chair in Middle East Studies and Director of the Middle East Institute and was the inaugural Research Associate lecture at the SOAS Middle East Institute.

Professor Khatib welcomed the representatives of the MBI Al Jaber Foundation, and noted Sheikh Mohamed's long history with SOAS, including the founding of the Chair in Middle East Studies and his role as founding patron and donor of the London Middle East Institute more than 20 years ago.
Sultan Sooud Al-Qassemi is founder of the Barjeel Art Foundation in Sharjah and is a distinguished columnist and researcher on social, political and cultural affairs in the Arab Gulf States. He is currently a Research Associate at SOAS Middle East Institute. He has taught and researched in institutions around the world, and the co-author of 'Building Sharjah'. Sultan Sooud Al-Qassemi's wide-ranging lecture featured women artists from across the Arab World, and celebrated women whose works have documented important historical moments and rallied for social and political change, noting that some of them were pioneers in their fields.
