MBI Al Jaber Foundation’s Partner Caabu Celebrates 50 Years of Activity
Caabu – The Council for Arab-British Understanding – held its 50th anniversary celebration on the evening of November 29th at One Great George Street, in the Smeaton Room. Caabu Director, Chris Doyle, addressed all its supporters: parliamentarians, ambassadors and partner institutions – including the MBI Al Jaber Foundation. He also stressed how Caabu relies greatly on its supporters’ donations to accomplish its profound mission, which is broadening the knowledge of the Arab world within the United Kingdom and strengthening relations between the two.

Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East, the Rt Hon Alistair Burt MP, spoke about the relationship between the UK and the Middle East and said that the latter’s stability lies at the very heart of Britain’s interests. Another relevant point of the Minister’s speech dealt with the British people’s comprehension of Arab culture in all its complexity.
Caabu board member, the Rt Hon Alistair Carmichael MP, introduced Layla Moran, who spoke about her roots and shared her awareness of the expectations that have been placed upon her for being the UK’s first Arab MP. Layla also thanked and praised Caabu for their work in informing the country’s population, especially their school programmes.
The final speaker was the Shadow Foreign Secretary, the Rt Hon Emily Thornberry MP, who underlined that despite devastating conflicts (for instance the Yemeni and Syrian crisis and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict) and growing tensions in the Gulf region, it has been Caabu’s mission during the last 50 years to instill hope for a solution to the region’s problems and to make efforts towards a whole different level of understanding.
Caabu’s Chairman, the Rt Hon David Jones MP, concluded by saying how paramount Caabu’s followers’ support is to achieving their ambitious goals.
A reception accompanied the event. It was generously supported by Ihab Kamal, Vice President of Caabu.
