Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber Appointed UN Spokesperson
Chairman of the MBI Al Jaber Foundation, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber, has been appointed UN Spokesperson for Global Forums on Reinventing Government, by the Director of UNDESA (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs) for his dedication to governance and public service and his commitment to the promotion of public and private partnerships on behalf of the Division for Public Administration and Development Management.
The Global Forums, inaugurated in 1999, have been organized to address government reinvention and aim to improve governance and enable the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The events host senior government officials, civil society organizations and representatives from the private sector. Previous conferences have been hosted in Washington, D.C., Brasilia, Naples, Marrakech, Mexico City and Seoul and each has examined a different theme related to government reinvention.
In 2007, the United Nations will host the 7th Global Forum on Reinventing Government on the theme of “Building Trust in Government” in Vienna. Trust will be examined in terms of its relationship with public sector capacities, and the costs in its absence. The conference will also explore strategies and innovations that generate improvements in governance and earn the trust of citizens. Efficient, accountable, effective and transparent governance plays a key role in the implementation of policy objectives and internationally agreed goals.
In his capacity as Spokesperson and on behalf of the MBI Al Jaber Foundation, MBI al Jaber is hosting a Gala Dinner to honour the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Heads of State and Ministers attending the Forum at the Grand Wien Hotel in Vienna on 27 June 2007.
