MBI Al Jaber Media Institute, Yemen

The MBI Al Jaber Media Institute is the first privately funded organisation for the development and training of journalists in Sana’a, Yemen. In addition to offering training courses on journalism and reporting skills, the Institute publishes an online newspaper, with content supplied by staff, students and alumni.

Drawing on previous projects in the fields of journalism and cultural philanthropy, H.E. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber, Founder, Patron and Chairman of the MBI Al Jaber Foundation, proposed the establishment of an independent, privately
funded institution to train writers, students and teachers in all aspects of journalism coverage.

The Institute has a board of advisors that includes media advocates from all over the world. Members include Nobel Laureate Tawakkol Karman, World Economic Forum member Dalia Mogahed and the Yemeni Minister of Information (ex-officio) Ali Al Imrani.

Our director is one of the premier journalists in Arabic media, Abdullah Ghorab. In addition, both local and international journalists are employed as freelancers to bring their knowledge and expertise to the courses offered in our classrooms.

Courses offered will include:
• Breaking news coverage
• Field reporting
• Investigative journalism
• News source verification
• Column writing
• Rules of professional journalism, impartiality
• Photojournalism
• Production for radio and television drama
• Language skills
